Not in the least because we now have the capacity to share things, that had previously only been available to people with access to secret vaults and archives. The Internet has made putting pieces of the puzzle together possible, in a way that was never contemplated before
Much of what we thought we knew, through official sources, was in fact propaganda, rather than the real story. Particularly the stories of WW1 and WW2. What really happened, has been hidden behind a veil of secrecy, that is only now starting to be de-classified, with 50 year and 99 year secrecy orders starting to lapse.
However - Australia's dark past goes back even further than that...
Did you know that Australia's First fleet was sent here on the basis of a report that in reflection, was deliberately fabricated to make Botany Bay sound like the perfect settlement site?
Or that the man put in charge of the First Fleet was someone who in fact had a long history in Naval Espionage against Britain's rivals, having in fact spied on preparations for Admiral La Perouse's Pacific expedition, before he was appointed to the lead the First Fleet?
